Helping children develop a foundation for a lifetime love of learning

At Rumpel Ridge Preschool and Academy, our curriculum is designed to help children develop not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. Our goal is to prepare our students for kindergarten and for a lifelong love of learning. Each lesson is carefully planned in advance.

We introduce students to reading and writing skills, as well as math and science concepts. Children are encouraged to express themselves through exercises in music and art. We emphasize creative, hands-on learning, in which children are able to discover and explore the world around them. Enrichment programs, outdoor play and engaging with nature are all important aspects of our curriculum, and we take students on several field trips throughout the year.

Our Curriculum

At Rumpelstiltskin Preschool, our curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning in every child. Through a blend of play-based activities and structured lessons, we foster cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. We believe that early education should be fun, engaging, and enriching, providing each child with the tools they need to grow and thrive.

Literacy – Zoo-phonics

Zoo-Phonics represents a kinesthetic, multi-modal method for comprehensively grasping language arts, encompassing vocabulary development and articulation. This approach is rooted in phonics and phonemic awareness, providing a dynamic and engaging platform for learning.

Writing – Handwriting without Tears

Through the Handwriting Without Tears program, students will acquire crucial readiness, early writing, literacy, and math skills. These potentially complex subjects will be systematically broken down into simpler tasks, building upon what children already know. This method allows them to master skills one step at a time, fostering the development of lifelong learning habits

Mathematics – Math Talk

Math talk captivates students, shifting them from passive to active participants. It instills in them a keenness to pose questions and offer explanations. This form of mathematical communication is pivotal for fostering the thinking, self-questioning, and explanation skills necessary for mastering the skills and concepts currently mandated.

Science

Integrating science into a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum is crucial for fostering holistic development. Through hands-on activities and age-appropriate experiments, young learners are introduced to the wonders of the natural world.

STEAM-focused science education at this early stage not only nurtures curiosity and a love for exploration but also lays the foundation for future academic success by promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and a passion for discovery. It’s about instilling a lifelong appreciation for science and the interconnectedness of various disciplines from the very start of a child’s educational journey.

Social Emotional

The Social-Emotional curriculum, such as the Second Step program, holds immense significance in preschool education as it establishes the groundwork for a child’s lifelong well-being. During these foundational years, children acquire the skills to navigate and comprehend their emotions, cultivate empathy, and forge positive relationships with peers and adults. A robust social-emotional curriculum extends beyond fostering emotional intelligence; it also imparts crucial skills like conflict resolution, effective communication, and self-regulation.

This foundational knowledge is paramount, not only for academic success but also for cultivating emotionally resilient individuals capable of thriving in diverse social settings. Through the prioritization of social-emotional development in preschool, educators play a pivotal role in shaping individuals who are not only academically prepared but also socially adept and emotionally secure.

Physical Education

Prioritizing gross motor skills in preschool physical education, particularly outdoors, is crucial for several reasons, especially in a state like Colorado. Engaging in outdoor physical activities enhances gross motor skills, which involve the coordination and control of large muscle groups, laying a foundation for various physical activities later in life.

In Colorado, where the stunning natural landscape encourages outdoor exploration, integrating gross motor activities into preschool physical education aligns with the state’s ethos of promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Moreover, exposure to outdoor environments in early childhood supports cognitive development, social skills, and a connection with nature, contributing to a well-rounded and holistic preschool experience.

By maintaining small class sizes, we ensure that each child receives the personalized attention they deserve, fostering a high-quality, nurturing, and safe environment. In our preschool classroom, we have 16 children with 2 teachers, maintaining a ratio of 1 teacher to 8 children to ensure each child’s unique needs are met. Absolutely! Outdoor play and nature exploration are key components of our daily routine. We believe that time spent outdoors is vital for children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Our safe, well-equipped playground offers plenty of space for active play, and we also take regular walks around our campus, encouraging children to explore nature and observe the world around them. Each day, we ensure that children spend at least one hour outside, unless temperatures fall below 20 degrees, in which case we provide indoor activities to work on gross motor skills. Outdoor recess and exploration are essential to our program, helping children strengthen their large muscles, develop social skills, and connect with the natural environment.

Additionally, during the summer months, we spend over 3 hours outdoors each day, offering a variety of engaging activities that allow children to explore, and play.
